Top 10 Important Revision Tips by KAPLAN

Good revision is vital to exam success. There’s no way to remember everything without going back over what you’ve learnt. So hopefully our top tips will help you make the most of your revision time

1. Stay on top of your reading: Throughout your studies make sure you’re getting familiar with the subject. You can’t revise if you don’t know your materials.

2. Start revising now: Don’t leave it to the last minute! Every time you learn something new, go back over it and make sure you understand everything. It’s too late just before the exam to discover you don’t know your subject.

3. Build a strong base: Apply what you’ve learnt in your textbooks to a real-life example. Complete practice questions and see what areas you need to work on. By doing this you’ll also be getting to grips with time management – you’ll see how long it takes to write an answer and sit an exam. Top 10 Important Revision Tips by Kaplan.

4. Get organised: Make a revision plan. Work out how much you need to do, how much time you’ve got, and which subjects you need to focus on. If you make a revision timetable, and stick to it, you should have enough time to go over everything.

5. Apply your knowledge: It’s not just about knowing what’s in the textbook, it’s about applying it to a scenario. When doing a practice question, make sure you read carefully. Look at the requirements and the verbs being used. These will help you find the right balance between knowledge and application, and will ensure you pitch your answer at the right level.

6. Work on your weaknesses: There will be areas you’re not as confident about, so focus on them a little longer than the ones you find easy. Speak to your tutor if you’re not sure about something, and they will give you more information about the topic, including what to focus on.

7. Get revision active: You may have read your books, but could you tell someone else what you know? There are some great ways to revise which don’t focus on reading. Draw a diagram, or speak out loud. Try and explain a topic to someone. It cements your knowledge, and gives you something other than your books to focus on.

8. Practice makes perfect: Make use of practice questions and mock exams. You’ll never know if you really understand something if you don’t test yourself.

9. Take a break: You can only concentrate for so long, so make sure you take regular breaks. A revision session shouldn’t be any longer than three hours – one hour per subject is probably best. And give yourself at least a five-minute break every hour.

10. Breathe and stay calm: Don’t panic! If you’re worried about your exams, speak to your tutor. They understand how stressful exams are and can help you focus, giving you advice and support.
Best of luck in your exams!
